Overview:
Alignment: Dark
The Abyssal Dragon is a creature of the void, born from the deepest and darkest corners of the cosmos beyond Vacari. It embodies the nothingness between stars and exists to restore what it sees as a cosmic balance, spreading shadows in places dominated by light. Often known as “Voidbound,” these dragons serve a mysterious purpose that binds them to the void itself.
Description:
The Abyssal Dragon is a massive, shadowy being with scales that seem to absorb light, often appearing translucent in direct illumination to reveal glimpses of a swirling void within. Its form constantly shifts and ripples like the surface of a dark ocean. The dragon’s eyes are glowing indigo orbs, like the last dying stars in a distant galaxy, while its wings, vast and tattered, resemble the void itself. As it moves, a dark trail pulls the world into an unnatural silence, distorting reality and dulling nearby sounds—a haunting mark of its passage.
Personality:
Cold, calculating, and devoid of emotion, the Abyssal Dragon has an insatiable hunger for destruction and the eradication of all light and life. Patient to a fault, it strikes when its prey is most vulnerable, viewing itself as a harbinger of a cosmic order tied to the void. Unlike other dragons, it has no need for material wealth or power—its loyalty is to the void and the shadows that summoned it.
Combat/Abilities:
Void Breath: The Abyssal Dragon breathes dark energy that doesn’t merely destroy but unravels matter, returning it to the void from which it came.
Time Dilation: The dragon manipulates time in its vicinity, slowing down or hastening reality to disorient its foes.
Gravitational Manipulation: With control over gravity, it can create crushing black holes or fling enemies with overpowering force, overwhelming any defense.
Shadowstep: This dragon can teleport through shadows, leaving the darkness around it heavier and more animated with each step, as if the shadows themselves are trying to mimic its movements.
Interactions:
As a foreign entity summoned to Vacari, the Abyssal Dragon is a power of convenience for the dark entities that have called it forth. Dark sorcerers or gods hoping to wield its power must perform dangerous rituals involving cosmic symbols and voidstone to pull it from its dimension. Even the most powerful beings tread carefully in its presence, for the Abyssal Dragon, with its boundless loyalty to the void, is likely to consume any in its path.
Notable:
Vorathos, the Devourer of Light
Special Ability: Vorathos can summon a total eclipse, plunging entire regions into darkness, temporarily nullifying all sources of light and weakening beings of light. In this void, Vorathos’s powers reach new heights, making her nearly unstoppable. She can see through any darkness she creates, giving her unparalleled advantage in the blackened chaos of battle.
Appearance: Yet to make her debut, Vorathos will enter with the other Abyssal Dragons in Book 3 of the Dragons of Vacari. Vorathos’s story is intertwined with the Shadow Dragon, and both are regarded as Dark Dragon Gods, with a shared legacy stemming from an ancient pact that binds them to cosmic shadows and sets them apart from the world of Vacari itself.
